Here in Dordrecht, the astronomical tidal calculations don't match reality due to the huge volumes coming down the Rhine and Meuse.

It's not the destination, it's the glory of the ride.

Yes but the locks on the Afgedamde Mass and the canal van sint andres are closed as they are trying to contain the floods on the Rhine and protect the Mass. The ijssel is also too fast at the moment.  Likely about 8km at the top.  The lek is also running at about 6km    So the only routes south open are to beat up stream to the Mass Wall Canal at Neimegan against the 5 km waal current, or to head west and enter the Mass at the bottom via the Biesbosch and Amer.

Of the 4 obvious links between the Waal and the Mass, I like the Waal-Maas canal from Nijmegan the least.  If one is going that far west, the route via the Biesbosch is great, particularly if a day or so can be spared for a longer stay, but otherwise I'd always opt for the beautiful and tranquil Afgedamde Maas via Aarst to join the Maas opposite Heusden.

The flood alerts on the waal are mostly over but the bottom two locks on the Mass are closed until further notice.  Access to the Mass is via the Mass Waal canal which means a slog against a 4 or 5 km current.
